October 1, 2024

With a passion for clean, efficient code and a love for learning, Geoff Neal brings their engineering expertise to Standard AI’s backend team.

A fan of AI’s potential in retail and lifelong learner, Geoff Neal shares insight on the company’s future, their journey into tech, and even a few fun facts – like their go-to snack and the unique job that gave them Zamboni-driving skills.

1. What is your role?

One of the many amazing engineers on the Product Backend team.

2. What are some highlights from your professional background?

Have been early members of a lot of great startups, even some of which have gone on to be acquired.

3. Why was Standard AI a match for you?

I was laid off early in the pandemic and was happy to find that Standard was still hiring. I loved that I was able to explain in simple terms exactly what the company did.

4. What are some of the hats you wear (known or unknown)?

Backend engineer, team lead, clean and simple code junkie.

5. What excites you about working with AI and retail/CPG?

I really see AI as a way to take data that has been around for a while and expand what we know and continue to drive life forward.

6. What’s your favorite snack to grab at the grocery store?

My go to is always a sugar free Monster/Rockstar (whatever has the buy some many at a discounted price) and a Twix which is my favorite candy

7. Where do you see the future of Standard AI?

Along the lines of what excites me about AI, I believe that Standard is one of the best at leading that charge.

8. If you could choose anyone as your mentor, who would you pick and why?

George Kittle. As a huge Niners fan he is not only one of my heroes but always brings a positive energy to every aspect of the game and life.

9. What’s the weirdest job or most unique job you’ve ever had?

I used to work at an ice rink as a “Skate guard” and learned how to drive a Zamboni.

10. If you could learn anything new, what would it be?

As an adult I would still really love to learn how to read music and play piano.

11. What if the first concert you attended?

It would probably have to be a county fair concert where this country band called “Trick Pony” played. “Pour Me” was their biggest song which was probably not the best song for a young child to be singing.

12. If you have 30-minutes (or longer) of free time, how do you pass the time?

Watching a comfort show with my wife. Currently back on “New Girl” for what feels like the 30th time
